Scholarships for the Study of Art
Each year, the Olive Hyde Art Guild provide scholarships to students who are pursuing higher education in art. The recipient must:
- Be a high school senior
- Be a Fremont resident
- Have firm plans to continue art education at the college level
The scholarship is to be used at an accredited school/college for the study of one or more of these visual arts: drawing, painting, mixed media, photography, sculpture, clay, textiles, glass, wood, graphic design, printmaking.

- First Place: Ben Yu Du, Mission San Jose High School
- Honorable Mention: Jessica Hsu, Mission San Jose High School and Li Chen, Mission San Jose High School
Requirements:
- The student must provide a portfolio of artwork. Minimum 4, maximum 6 pieces. Submit samples of your work in slide or CD form. Your work will be returned to you if clearly labeled with your name and address.
- The student must have a minimum GPA of 2.50 at time of application.
- The student must provide written letters of recommendation from art instructor (creativity/ability) and school counselor (GPA/school attendance/transcripts), submitted directly to selection committee.
- The student must have written permission of parent/guardian.
- The applicant is not required to demonstrate financial need. The award will be made on artistic merit.
Scholarships are awarded as follows:
- The first place winner receives $2000
- Two honorable mention winners will each receive awards of $1,000
- The teacher of the first place winner will receive $500.00 for classroom art supplies
- Awards will be sent to the Financial Aid office of the school/college each recipient is attending, and is not renewable.
Recipients will be selected in March of each calendar year, and applicants will be notified in April of each year. Applicants should complete the application neatly and return it, with samples of artwork (clearly labeled with name, artwork title and date completed), to the address on the form by the specified deadline. Letters of recommendation from school staff should be mailed separately to the scholarship committee.

Scholarships for the 2008-2009 school year have been awarded. Scholarships for the 2009-2010 school year will be awarded in April, 2010.
